WHAT I WORE: tip to toe!

First things first...lets discuss this silk-lined Ruby Sampson headwrap, shall we?

I got it months ago at the Zuvaa pop-up shop in Ivy City (you know...over by where Love/Dream used to be). I got to meet the designer and she gave me a hands on tutorial on how to tie a headwrap. The trick, if you're a beginner, is to wear a small scarf. The bigger the scarf the more complicated it is to do. Don't worry, she has a scarf for beginners

You basically wrap the rectangle-shaped scarf from the back of your head forward, tying a knot at the center of your forehead. Then you tuck the ends of the scarf into the knot you've tied. Its that simple! The amazing part about this Ruby Sampson headwrap is that its silk lined on one side and linen on the other.

If you've read the story of my "big chop" than you know that my scalp is a delicate flower...so I've upgraded to this silk pillowcase and wear silk-lined hats whenever possible. This Ruby Sampson scarf is my first foray into headwraps and I have to say I felt pretty badass (the leather jacket didn't hurt).

Ok now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's move on to this buttery soft leather jacket.

I know everyone is excited about "sweater weather" but what's a sweater ever done to flatter you...huh? A leather jacket on the other hand, that's a piece that can elevate your mood and complete your life all while actually keeping you warm. I for one am choosing a leather jacket over a boyfriend this "cuffing season" whose with me?

This particular leather jacket is by a French brand called IRO. In America IRO is sold in Nordstrom, Neimans and Saks. I'm wearing the signature moto style, which they do in different colors every season (mine is actually dark navy). The jacket costs over $1,000 but a friend text me when she saw this one being sold on The Real Real for $400 new with tags from Barneys. I found a coupon online to bring the price down to $300. SCORE! Totally worth the money and lucky for me the one jacket available on the resell sight was my size (42) because IRO runs notoriously small as do other French brands like Maje. PS Maje actually sells a moto jacket with leather even butterier than IRO but the largest size Maje makes is a 40, which is basically a US 4/6.

Lastly, I'd like to address these jeans. Let me start my saying this...I paid $400 for these jeans in 2008. That's insane... I'm fully aware, its the equivalent of paying $1,000 for a pair of jeans today. I'm hoping I got a discount on them at least, but I don't remember. Also Jessica Simpson wore these jeans a year later and landed in the National Inquirer where they called her a porked-up popstar...so rude! Just goes to show you...everything a'int for every body (and also people are rude). I think she looks sexy and curvy and if she wore them today she'd be called bootylicious so the lesson here is sometimes you (or your stylist) are going to be too far ahead of the times for people to "get it" not to worry though...if they give you a hard time you can turn around and show them where to kiss it!

  1. Well, I applaud you for looking good in those jeans after all of these years. I go through jeans like water because of my constant weight fluctuations. smh. Anywho, you have a knack for picking timeless pieces. So not surprised.

  2. LOVE the headscarf on you! This whole outfit is perfect! Rosa was telling me about those jeans over the weekend as we were shooting! lol I have a pair of Gap flare jeans I've kept and now wear again - a lot less than $400 but still so glad they're back!
