Last night all my fashion friends gathered at the new Marriott Marquis hotel for the annual Fashion of Goodwill Runway show. The theme this year was "Let's Get to Work" which highlighted the growing importance of fashion in the workplace and reinforced the mission of Goodwill of Greater Washington to transform lives and communities through education and employment.

There has been a major shift in society and popular culture from women being seen as either professional or fashionable. Kerry Washington recently said in an interview about her new clothing line inspired by Olivia Pope the character she plays on Scandal; "women often feel like have to be either smart or beautiful, powerful or pretty, either fashion-forward or successful. You don't have to compromise who you are as a woman to fit somebody's expectation of what power looks like."
